Morgue File: 1960’s

The Ask

Research and showcase the most popular trends and styles from the 1960’s. Focus slides on Women’s Day Wear, Women’s Evening Wear, Menswear, and Accessories

The Process.

Using our textbook, notes, and lectures provided by our professor, we were able to do a deep dive into the decade to find the major themes and overall zeitgeist of the era. I had a strong attraction to the looks popular in the 1960’s so gathering images was my favorite part. I began by assembling my slide deck and laying out each category including women’s wear, menswear, and accessories.

Steps to Success.

I began the process by setting up my slide deck to showcase all four different categories of dress. Following this, I gathered my images from various sources including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Vintage Dancer, and VCU Libraries. After selecting the key trends and looks I wanted to research, I began my research into the 1960’s from textbook sources and lectures. After finding this, I was able to identify the key trends and themes within the period to better understand the decade as a whole.

The Outcome

Overall, this was one of my favorite topics to research. I’ve always been a history buff, so looking into historical fashion trends and choices is extremely exciting to me. I was able to gain greater research skills and find new outlets for image searching and organization for identification. I was inspired by the free spirit of the 60’s and love looking into different icons of this decade.
